Educating Future Leaders

Population Challenges: Reaching the Teachers–a college and university educational resource project funded by UNFPA.

This ongoing project is identifying faculty members in Womens Studies, Environmental Studies, and other selected U.S. departments and programs in higher education, and then providing them with information and teaching resources from the Population Press for use in their classes. Approximately 3,000 college and university professors receive the Population Press on a regular basis through this project. Many request additional copies to share with their students. In response to the growing requests for educational materials from students, and recognizing that students do an increasing amount of their research on the web, Blue Planet United provides a special website designed with young people in mind: www.populationpress.org. Along with many articles and resource links, we provide interactive population and consumption charts, an ecological footprint quiz, and population “clocks” that reveal the rate and magnitude of global population growth, in real time.
